Redemption Road chronicles the journey of Dr. Yusef Bunchy Shakur from gang member who was raised by his Black single mother in a deindustrialized Black Detroit in the 1980s to a community leader. Dr. Shakur’s coming-of-age in Amerikkka story explores resilience and transformation while grappling with the harsh realities of violence, incarceration, systemic racism, sexism, and gentrification through personal interviews, photographs, and thought-provoking storytelling.
